Electoral Record

  • 2018 — Elected as Labour councillor for Childs Hill ward, Barnet Council as the first Labour councillor to represent the ward in over forty years.

  • 2021 — Elected as London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden with a majority of 13,002

  • 2022 — Re-elected to Barnet Council, this time representing the newly created Cricklewood ward, winning with 69.7% of the vote

  • 2024 — Re-elected to the London Assembly with an increased majority of 19,143 over the Conservative candidate, securing 43.6% of the vote across Barnet and Camden

  • 2026 — Reelected as councillor for Cricklewood Ward.

London Assembly - Fire Committee

  • Serve as Chair of the Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee. I oversee the London Fire Brigade, fire safety policy, and emergency preparedness across the capital.

  • Proposed and passed a Building Safety motion at the London Assembly, pushing both City Hall and the Government to act on the cladding scandal

  • I champion the rights of Londoners still living in unsafe, cladded homes, and lobby for leaseholders to be protected from high remediation costs. 

  • Advocated for the full implementation of all recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, maintaining pressure on Government on behalf of bereaved families and survivors

  • Led the committee's investigation into unsafe lithium-ion batteries in e-bikes and e-scooters, obtaining data showing a battery fire occurs on average every two days in London.

  • Fought for firefighters' pay and conditions and supported London Fire Brigade staff throughout the Brigade's Culture Review and its period of special measures, which ended in March 2024

  • Welcomed and scrutinised the Government's Fire Reform White Paper, pushing for mandatory evacuation plans for high-rise buildings and better protection of vulnerable residents

  • Issued the London Assembly's statement on the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire (June 2022), reaffirming the Assembly's commitment to fire safety scrutiny

London Assembly - Economy, Transport, Community Safety & Environment

  • I sit on the the Economy, Culture and Skills Committee and Budget and Performance Committee, scrutinising the Mayor's spending and London's economic strategy. 

  • I am also formerly a Member of the Environment Committee

  • I campaigned for free school meals for every child in London's state primary schools, alongside holiday meals programmes, with both subsequently delivered by the Mayor of London

  • Fought to protect and improve bus services, opposing cuts and successfully supporting the launch of the Superloop bus network

  • Helped secure the new 310 bus route, improving outer London connectivity

  • Welcomed and championed the new direct bus route connecting Golders Green and Stamford Hill, linking two of London's largest Jewish communities

  • I work closely with the Mayor and both councils to deliver more affordable and social housing across Barnet and Camden

  • I have worked to clean up London's air and streets, supporting investment in electric buses, tree planting, and street cleaning across both boroughs

  • Worked to deliver more community policing despite Government cuts, supporting Sadiq Khan's push to rebuild officer numbers

  • Tackled hate crime against Jewish and Muslim communities in the constituency

  • Campaigned on local environmental impacts including flooding and wildfires

Barnet Council

  • When in opposition, I proposed Barnet's declaration of a climate emergency. When Labour won control of the council in 2022, this was enacted as policy, meaning all council decisions must now consider environmental impact

  • Appointed to the Barnet Cabinet in 2023 as Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Sports

  • Previously Cabinet member for Community Wealth Being. When Labour brought procurement back in-house, I instituted reforms that meant that any external partners must add social value to our borough.

  • Led a successful campaign alongside residents to save the green space at the heart of Cricklewood from development

  • Worked with the Cricklewood Town Team to transform the local train station from a neglected eyesore into a community landmark with gardens and public art

  • Worked alongside residents on building regulation and freehold reform, as part of the broader End Our Cladding Scandal campaign

Community & Voluntary Work

  • Chair of Governors at a Hampstead and All Saints’ School for over 14 years

  • Trustee of Childs Hill Food Bank, which I co-founded during the COVID-19 pandemic. I continue to regularly volunteer.

  • Committee member of NorthWestTwo Residents' Association (covering Camden, Barnet and Brent) since 2012, supporting local arts and community projects across Cricklewood

  • Chair of my local residents' association

  • Volunteer with Meet the Parents (bringing Camden primary and secondary school parents together) since 2013

  • Overnight volunteer with the Camden Winter Nights Shelter

  • Previously volunteered with Sure Start Kilburn (2005–2008)

  • Longstanding campaigner with End Our Cladding Scandal

  • Fought against the treatment of A-level and GCSE students adversely affected by COVID-19 exam grading
